LOM and FSX Update on Version 2

Filed under: Scenery Design — scruffyduck @ 8:41 pm

A bug has turned up in LOM 2.  If you try to load FS9 libraries into the FSX version of LOM then the information about Footprint and textures does not make it into the database.  The problem has been found in the switch which sends FS9 stuff to one de-compiler and FSX stuff to another.  This should not affect the ability of LOM to place objects but the scale will be wrong if you try to use them in Scenery Maker.

There is afix and a new version should be out within a couple of days.  In the meantime FSX objects (all 3,515 of them!) are imported correctly.

LOM/SM Beta Released for FSX

Filed under: Scenery Design — scruffyduck @ 8:00 pm

We are pleased to release Library Object Manager/Scenery Maker version 2.00 for Beta testing. This version can import and then place the library objects which are bundled with FSX (over 3,500 of them!). The program generates bgl files for FSX so this program is not for FS9. We have tested LOM/SM with the retail version of FSX and all the placement functions appear to work including effects, rotating beacons, etc and the compound object tools. Please bear in mind that there is still a lot to learn about FSX scenery and that this program is beta. You can download it directly from our web site. Please Note that you need FSUIPC4 installed for this version to work. You do not need to register it.

LOM and FSX II

Filed under: Scenery Design — scruffyduck @ 8:26 pm

Today I have been adding objects to FSX using Scenery Maker with FSUIPC4.  So far everything works – FS9 Objects, Effects, Windsocks and Rotating Beacons.  LOM works fine with the Free version of FSUIPC4.

One thing worth noting is that the generic objects in FSX are different than the ones in FS9.  Therefore if you want these FS9 objects to display in FSX you will need to copy the generic.bgl and vehicles.bgl files and all their textures into a sub folder within Addon Scenery.  I created one called FS9 Generic.  Copied the bgl files into the scenery sub folder and textures into the texture sub folder.  I renamed the bgl files – FS doesn’t care what the bgl is called.  After activating FS9 Generic in FSX I could place objects from those libraries.

The windsock bug from FS9 is gone so there is no longer any need to put two wind tracking objects in your scenery.

The new bglcomp which comes with the FSX SDK compiles the FS9 xml scenery code fine.

I am now hoping to get FSX library objects into the program and test placing them as well.  After that I will try and release a beta.

LOM and FSX

Well I have been digging around in the new FSX MDL format for the last few days and while I still don’t understand the rendering information I have enough so that LOM should be able to import FSX libraries.  There will be a  new release of LOM/SM in a month or so.

My Service Provider is doing a ‘major upgrade’ and despite saying that web forwarding is still working, it isn’t.   You can reach the site directly via

Hopefully this problem won’t last long

UPDATE

As of 07:30 GMT  today the site is back up.

Some of the guys over on http://www.fsdeveloper.com are working on a new scenery design program which will include AFCAD like functions for FSX. I am part of that group, as is Arno. If you want to take a look at what we are thinking about then check out the SDSX Forum under Tools Programming,
