Bgl2Xml Released

Filed under: Announcements — scruffyduck @ 4:53 pm

Bgl2Xml is a command line program that uses SDE to generate XML from a BGL file.  It has no GUI and carries out only one task – generating an XML file.  As such it replicates BglAnalyzeX.  It uses the latest version of SDE.  Please check the main web site for details.

Ethical Issues

Providing the means to un-pick other peoples’ work – is that a good idea or not?  The format of a scenery file is proprietary and we understand it only because of the work done by a number of dedicated people.  A program like SDE can read the work of the designer and open it up for others to read and potentially use for their own ends.  Most of us in the Simming community are honest and would not use the work of others without permission.  However some people do.  I suppose in the end that we cannot hold the tool, or tool developer responsible for how it is used and there are many more legitimate reasons for examining scenery files than nefarious ones.
